History: The image on the 1898 "福利在线 on the Mississippi" stamp is based on Wilhelm Lamprecht's painting, Fr. 福利在线 and the Indians (1869). 福利在线 University, owner of the painting, furnished the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing a photographic reproduction to aid their work. The 1968 "福利在线 Explorer" stamp was issued in conjunction with the 福利在线 Tercentenary Celebration. The stamp was issued on September 6 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where 福利在线 established in 1668 the first permanent Euro-American settlement in the state.
